The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.The 17 SDGs are integrated—that is, they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.Through the pledge to Leave No One Behind, countries have committed to fast-track progress for those furthest behind first. That is why the SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing ‘zeros’, including zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls. In order to fulfill these global goals, the countries involved, the international authorities and the global community, need to work together, cooperating with each other, and have same desire to achieve these global desires towards 2030.
The awareness of the global community on the Sustainable Development Goals playing a huge part of the role to succeed these missions that can lead to peace and prosperity of the world regardless of the countries, communities, races, cultures, religions and ideologies. If 1 billion people reduce their daily waste like food, electricity, gas and fuel in 1 year, we can perceive the significant impact happens on the environment such as the improvement of atmosphere quality and reduce the lack of food availability could be seen.Individuals effort can greatly contribute towards advancing the sustainable development goals.Although they seem insignificant, our individual actions can contribute significantly and positively to sustainability, our commitment and awareness is needed to achieve truly sustainable development.
Individual role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals
UN's Sustainable Goals are huge and ambitious. But even smallest individual initiatives count in the effort for the SDG achievement. Here some sort of individual role in advancing of Sustainabe Development.
1. Contributing to education and citizen action
We as a responsible individual need to conceive sustainability measures as an improvement that guarantees everyone’s future and not as a limitation. Thus, help to spread the awareness about the Sustainabe Development goals and the importance of Its implementation, also, to be aware of unsustainable and closely linked problems: consumerism, population explosion, predatory economic growth, environmental degradation and reforestation. Another way to contribute in community is to promote social recognition of positive measures for a sustainable future.
2. Health and well-being
In general, one of the main goals of SDG 3 is to ensure the perfect protection of the health of every individual. Basically, health more depends on the individual rather than the authoritarian.Be physically active for 30 minutes most days of the week, eat a well-balanced, low-fat diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, choose a diet that's low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and moderate in sugar, salt and total fat could ensure a good health of individual. Furthermore, other target of sdg 3 is to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic. This can be done by increase the visibility to prevent the probability of an accident, drivers should make sure to turn on their headlights in low-visibility situations, such as when they are driving at night or in bad weather.
3. Responsible on consumption and production
Every human should aware of their waste production, where its come and Go after the consumption. Reuse, reduce and recycle are the best method for everyone to prevent unwanted waste such as refilling a water bottle with water from home instead of buying a new one and ditch plastic bags and choose reusable, environmentally -friendly bags instead.Furthermore, to reduce waste, we can donate all the unused stuff like clothes, books, furniture, and food to the people who in need,by donating we has contributed to other goals aiming towards no poverty, zero hunger and reduced inequalities. In addition, the consumption and production can be related to the food waste, and the responsibility to reduce food losses, an individual need to plan meals and prevent overbuy in order to prevent food waste.
